Greetings!

At Global Gateways, our mission is to open doors of opportunity for youth and young adults in our community. We focus on three key areas: providing engaging afterschool programming, creating affordable study abroad opportunities for students at HBCUs, and equipping individuals with the skills they need through workforce development initiatives. Together, we are building a brighter future by fostering education, cultural exchange, and career readiness. Thank you for visiting our site, and we invite you to join us in this impactful journey!

Warm regards,

My Story

Shameka L. Reed  is a multi-hyphenate entrepreneur.

As the Founder and Executive Director of nonprofit Global Gateways, she believes in the transformative power of global and cultural education. Under her leadership, Global Gateways’ Language and Cultural Enrichment afterschool and summer camp programs have helped more than 600 elementary students in Jackson Public School District (Jackson, Mississippi) learn conversational Spanish, English and explore global and local cultures. The program is designed to not only teach conversational Spanish and English As A Second Language (ESL), but promote cultural exchange and awareness, personal growth, and academic achievement through immersive global experiences that foster intercultural understanding and global citizenship.

Additionally, International Summer, Global Gateways’ signature scholarship program for HBCU students, provides study abroad scholarships for students who identify as low income to spend four weeks enrolled in classes at ITESO University in Guadalajara, Mexico. The scholarship covers tuition, housing, and passport fees.
